Good morning parents,

Your input is very important.  Please take a few minutes and complete our parent survey provided by the state of Michigan.

School improvement is a continuous process that involves all stake holders. You will have the opportunity to take a brief survey from the State of Michigan rating some of your experiences here at Lindemann Elementary.

The survey will be available starting today (Jan. 17th), and end on Tuesday, Jan. 31st.  If needed, we will have computers available at our Parent Teacher Conferences for those parents who were not able to have access to a home computer.  Each parent is asked to complete the survey.

Giving us honest feedback helps us plan better to meet the needs of every Lindemann Lion stakeholder.  In addition, students and staff also take a similar survey during the school day.

All of the feedback you provide is then summarized and becomes part of our school improvement plan for the 2017-18 school year.

Please click on the link below to start the survey:

Attention students and staff…

We will be having our 3rd annual Hair Cutting Event at Allen Park Middle School this year on Monday March 20th from 2:30-4:30 pm in the activity room near the gym.  This year, Ms. Kinsey, Mrs. Speakman and Mrs. Brown are all donating their hair! The event will be one week before Spring break so start growing your hair now if you plan to participate!

Hair stylists from Anthony’s salon will be donating haircuts to those students who are willing to donate 8 inches of hair or more. You can still donate if your hair has been colored and/or processed. All of the hair that is donated will go to “Children With Hair Loss” in South Rockwood, and will be made into wigs for children who have lost their hair due  to medical conditions like cancer, or alopecia.

If you are a student who is on NJHS, Mrs. Church has approved 2 volunteer points for you if you donate your hair on March 20th. Please sign up in Mrs. Speakman room 112 or with Mrs. Brown, across from the Media Center, if you are planning to donate your hair.  If you do not have enough hair to donate, but want to support the cause, Children With Hair Loss is always looking for student volunteers at their store in South Rockwood.

Please see Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Speakman or Mrs. Kelly if you have any questions.

Winter conferences are coming up quick on February 15 and 16 from 5:00-7:30 each night.  Teachers will send out “invitations” by February 3rd.  If you do not get an invitation, a conference is not necessary at this time; however, if you would like to schedule a conference you are encouraged to contact the teacher to set up a time and date.

CHESS CLUB

The 2017 Lindemann Chess Club will be beginning in a couple weeks. Registration forms are available now from Mr. McDermott and Mr. Wahl. All students in third, fourth and fifth grade, that have a basic understanding of the game, are eligible to join. The club will meet at Lindemann after school on Tuesdays beginning February 7th. The club meets from 3:35 – 4:15 in the Media Center, the students are dismissed through the media center doors after each session. All students MUST be picked up by 4:20.

Each week we will play games against and with each other, we will enhance our strategic skills, we will learn other fun and interesting ways to play the game, and we will have fun with the “little games within the big game”. There will be players at various abilities and experiences in our club. The emphasis is on learning, having fun sharing the game, and enjoying challenging competition with friends.

If your child is interested, please return the Registration form to Mr. McDermott or Mr. Wahl before February 3!

FRESH AIR & EXERCISE

Fresh air and exercise have been proven to aid in the physical and educational growth of students. For this reason, our school has an outdoor recess program. It is important that children wear appropriate clothing so they can go outdoors each recess. Generally, if a child is feeling well enough to come to school, he/she can go outside for recess. Parents, please remember, a hooded sweatshirt is not a jacket.  A child needs a warm winter jacket/coat, gloves and a hat to wear during recess.  These students are outside for almost 30 minutes!

Many factors are used to determine outdoor recess. These consist of temperature, wind chill factor, and playground conditions. Students will remain inside if the weather is inclement. If the wind-chill is 20 degrees or above the children will go out for recess. Please be sure your child is prepared to go outside during the cold winter months.

20 Degrees is the Magic Number

M-FLY Visits

Mrs. Kusulas’s Classroom!

WHO WE ARE
M-Fly is a Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) aerospace design team at the University of Michigan dedicated
to promoting opportunities for students to practice applying their knowledge to projects outside the classroom.

We are a non-profit, student run organization, and our goal is to design, build, test, and fly two radio-controlled, unmanned airplanes to compete with at the annual SAE Aero Design Competition.

In pursuit of preparing our students for a career in aerospace, it is in our interest to share the field that we love with others. Many of our students can point to a time when they were captivated by aerospace and they were inspired to be apart of that world. We hope to provide the same opportunity for the next generation. Through interactive workshops and activities, we show students how exciting and interesting a future in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) can be.

CELEBRATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF DR. KING

Our district has chosen to be in session on Martin Luther King Day.  This gives us the opportunity to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King with our students.  Please plan to take some time on Monday, and throughout this week, to explore his impact on our lives.  Please let me know if you need any resources that I can provide for you.

Much can be learned from leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The leadership lessons he gave the world are as important today as they were during Dr. King’s life. Click here now to download this poster in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The Huron-Clinton Metro Parks came to Lindemann to share information about the Great Lakes fur-trading era with our 3rd grade students.  Students learned about Michigan’s part in the fur trade along with learning about the everyday life of the voyageur.

$1,378 in just 52 Weeks.

Here’s a tip.  To make it a bit easier on the wallet, you might want to consider reversing the chart.  Start with $52 in week 1 and work your way down.  It’s tougher to put aside those bigger dollar amounts during the holiday season.  Good Luck and start planning that “weekend away”!
