PBIS BULLYING ASSEMBLY! Super U! Challenge
Our top character education show for over 7 school years! Energizes students and encourages a safe and positive school environment.
The Super U! Challenge (super YOU!) is an action-packed school assembly that promotes a bully-free school environment by encouraging students to build positive character traits. It’s all about challenging students to become their own “personal super heroes” and let their best traits shine – at school and at home.
The Super U! Challenge is designed after classic Kid’s TV game shows such as “Double Dare” and the current Nickelodeon smash-hit “Brain Surge”. During the 45-minute show, contestants from the audience are invited to take part in imaginative, funny, and wackyinteractive challenges that involve oversize props, creative costumes, and yes…even some slime!
Each exciting challenge is based around a specific message about bullying and positive character traits that reinforces what students hear in school. In fact, this program goes hand-in-hand with PBIS and other character and behavior programs.
Unlike a traditional “quiz show” assembly that requires students to answer questions about curriculum, The Super U! Challenge does not put students “on-the-spot” or require that they have memorized any facts. The only requirement of the hand-on challenges is that the volunteers (and the audience!) are ready to have fun. This means students from all grade levels can participate in the show – and as soon as they see the wild challenges, there is never any shortage of eager volunteers.
In addition to encouraging positive character traits, and positive school behavior, The Super U! Challengealso promotes teamwork and cooperation among students.
Topics highlighted in this program:
Building friendships and trust
Avoid being a bully
How your actions build character
Honesty
Respect
Being a part of a community
Good Sportsmanship & Teamwork

Please be sure to call the main office if you need to send a message to your child. Many of our parents are opting to send an email directly to the teacher asking them to relay a message to their child.
However, our teachers are teaching! Our teachers are encouraged to have direct instruction with their classes throughout the entire day. Rarely, do our teachers find time to check their email or even voice mail during the school day. Many of our teachers do this task after school hours.
Parents have expressed concern that their child never received their note. By the time the classroom teacher found time to sit down and scroll their email messages the students have already been released. This is not a safe or effective way to properly communicate with your child during the school day.
Please, contact the main office (just like our parents did for us). Mrs. Crete and Mrs. Bergiel are more than happy to take the message over the phone , write a note and send it down to the classroom to your child’s attention. This is safe and reliable way to communicate with your child during the school day. ~ Thank you!
In the Art Room We Need:
CEREAL BOXES! Each 4th grade student is going to start building a sarcophagus for their mummy, and we will use this thin cardboard to build the structure. Large cracker or cookie boxes may work too since they are usually made out of the similar cardboard. Students from any grade level can donate!
EGG CARTONS! We are very low here in the art room and can always use more to pour paint.
Paint shirts. We no longer share paint shirts in the art room due to health reasons, so please send your child to school with a paint shirt that they can wear to art or dress him or her in clothing that can get dirty on their art day.
What We’re up to:
SQUARE 1 Art fundraiser! Information on our art fundraiser will be sent home very soon! The students did self portraits to start the year and Sqaure 1 will be providing each student with a free sheet of stickers with their order packet! Packets will go home next week and orders will be due Nov. 7th. Visit www.square1art.com to view the products!
All grades have moved into our 2nd unit of art history, ANCIENT EGYPT! The kids love talking about Egypt—discuss as a family any facts you might know!
Our warbler lives on! The Detroit Audubon Society will be honoring our Art for the Sky project in November at their annual conference.
COLOR RUN UPDATE
Due to a scheduling conflict, the color run will still be at Champaign Parkon Sunday, October 23, however we will be at shelter #2 by the APAC baseball diamond. There is a parking lot off of Pelham but you may still park on the surrounding side streets and walk to the back of the park. We hope everyone is excited and ready for some fun!
Thanks! -PTA
A special THANK YOUgoes out to our 4th grade teaching staff (Mrs. Migliore, Mr. McDermott, Mrs. Dixon and Mrs. Bergman) for exposing our 4th grade students to such a powerful message and fun presentation: THINK! ENERGY sponsored by DTE.

Lindemann Elementary Celebrates!
As the principal of Lindemann Elementary School, I am honored to be able to work side by side with a staff that is dedicated and committed to educational excellence! The staff at Lindemann Elementary Schoool is passionate about education and our students. It is a privilege to work with parents who are supportive of the educational process and are united as a school community. Lindemann truly is a very special place and I am proud to be the principal!
As a staff, we are always looking for ways to give back to our students. For a gift, the staff purchased three different books that will be donated to the media center for our students use in my honor as the building principal. What a perfect gift!
Thank you ~ Mike Darga.
On behalf of our Lindemann Elementary Staff,
I would like to say THANK YOU to
Ms. Asteriou and Mrs.Chimienti
for your years of dedication and service to our students as our
School Improvement Leaders.
The Starfish Story…
A young man is walking along the ocean and sees a beach on which thousands and thousands of starfish have washed ashore. Further along he sees an old man, walking slowly and stooping often, picking up one starfish after another and tossing each one gently into the ocean. “Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?,” he asks. “Because the sun is up and the tide is going out and if I don’t throw them further in they will die.” “But, old man, don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it! You can’t possibly save them all, you can’t even save one-tenth of them. In fact, even if you work all day, your efforts won’t make any difference at all.” The old man listened calmly and then bent down to pick up another starfish and threw it into the sea. “It made a difference to that one.”
THANK YOU DTE Energy!
Our 4th grade students loved the presentation on ENERGY and greatly appreciated the TAKE ACTION KIT that was passed out to each student to bring home and share with their parents.

Allen Park Public Schools Statement Regarding Alleged Clown Sightings
There has been a wave of creepy clown sightings and incidents around the U.S. and recently in the metro Detroit area causing panic and a social media frenzy. Because our students are familiar with social media and are watching the news, it is natural for them to become concerned with the issues they are seeing around us. We have had students express their apprehension and fear and want to make sure everyone knows we are sensitive to this issue. We will continue to be vigilant and ask parents to remind their children not to spread rumors in school or on social media.
APPS has not received any threats to date, nor any reported clown sightings on school property. Per policy, all visitors must check in at school offices and outdoor recess is closely monitored. Should you or your child feel threatened or observe suspicious behavior, we ask that you contact the Allen Park Police Department. In the event of an incident on school property, please contact your building principal immediately.
With the Halloween season quickly approaching, we ask that students do not wear masks covering their face while on school property. We recognize that Halloween is an exciting time for students, but ask that students behave responsibly at school. Dressing as a clown may be intended as a joke; however, intentions could be easily misconstrued in light of the national attention this issue is receiving.
As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We thank you for your cooperation in not feeding this social media frenzy.

Student Attendance
Please read the attitude article on the importance of student attendance, which is mandatory by the laws of the State of Michigan. Please be aware that we are required to follow up with families either verbally, in writing, or both when absences reach the 10 full day mark.
This year, the district calendar reflects 8 half-days of teacher PD that is required by the state. Those PD dates feature no school in the afternoon, 11:40 dismissal. The dates for October are as follows:
As the building principal, I will be sharing all things Lindemann. As I walk the building and see great things happening in and out of our class rooms, I may snap a quick photo and give an update. Let’s celebrate learning!
