Mileage Club 2016

Thursday, September 22nd will be the kickoff day for Mileage Club.  Every Tuesday and Thursday until October 20th. (Rain Day make-up)  As in previous years, students are given the opportunity to walk or run during their lunch recess.  This program promotes health and fitness in grades K-5.  The Mileage Club course will be supervised by parent volunteers.  The course is located around the field behind the school.   A foot charm will be given for each 1 mile (4 laps around) your child completes by his/her teacher each week.  The foot charms can be placed on a chain that they will be given after the first week.  At the end of the Mileage club, winners will be decided based on overall laps.  There will be only 1 prize per 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.  In the case of a tie, a name will be randomly drawn for each place.

Please remind students:

PBIS is an expectation while participating in Mileage Club.

4 feet checked off their tracking card = 1 mile and a foot charm (teachers will pass out charms once   a week)

You must carry your tracker card on the course.

Lost charms and/or chains WILL NOT be replaced.

You can walk or run the course.  Kindergarten must walk only.

You MUST stop and have a volunteer mark your tracker card after EACH lap at the Start/Stop cone.       Only a volunteer may mark you card.

You must complete the full lap for it to count.

No corner cutting!  Your lap will not be counted.

The last 5 minutes of recess you will be asked to return to the playground.

Each Kindergarten class is required to have at least 2 parent volunteers to walk with the students.  Lunch Aides are welcome to join students or monitor the playground.  Volunteers will be available at approximately 11:00am until 1:10pm Tuesday and Thursday through October 20th.

Thank you for your support!

Greetings Lindemann Parents!

I wanted to send out a couple quick updates regarding Halloween at Lindemann Elementary.

  • Monday, October 31st.
  • 10:30 AM.  Halloween Parade.  Outside
  • Classroom parties directly after the parade (classroom teacher would communicate an alternate schedule with their families)
  • Parents assisting with parties MUST be cleared with the teacher
  • Parents assisting must check into the main office after the parade
  • Parents are asked NOT to enter the building before the parade.

Costumes:

  • Students will wear their costumes to school.
  • All costumes must be school appropriate
  • No play guns or weapons of any kind
  • Please do not allow your child to wear a mask.  Masks tend to slip causing a possible trip and fall accident / injury.

Parade Path:

  • Weather permitting.  We will be outside for our parade.  Our plan is to start the parade with our Kindergarten classes.  We will walk through the building picking up our 1st grade classes and exit door # 9 (1st grade doors).  We will re-enter Lindemann at door # 10 picking up our 2nd and 3rd grade classes. We will walk through the halls and exit door # 11 picking up our 4th and 5th grade classes.  We will walk through the staff parking lot to Carter street. We will walk up Carter Street  (in-front of the main entrance) to Wick Street.  We will follow Wick Street to Becker Street. We will walk down Becker Street to door # 11 (5th grade doors) where we will re-enter the building.  Each class will then proceed back to their classrooms for their parties.
  • We will not be exiting and entering through the main entrance.
  • Parents assisting in the classrooms MUST enter through the main entrance after the parade to check into the building.

The staff and students are excited and hope you will be able to join us during our parade.

Thank you

Mike Darga, Principal

no dogs allowed

Good afternoon –

I would like to ask our parents to please not bring their dogs to school during drop off and pick up times at Lindemann Elementary School.  The main office has received many different complaints about several different dogs (both small and large) that are causing some anxiety with many of our students and parents.

As the building principal, I am entrusted to create a safe school environment for our school community. During the end of the school day we release around 700 students at one time.  As parents, we all know it’s a bit hectic on school grounds during that time of the day.  Even our best trained dogs can get a bit jumpy at times. I would hate to find out one of our school community members were injured due to a dog bite, scratch, etc.

Parents – please do not take matters into your own hands by confronting other adults regarding our request to not bring dogs on the property. Please continue to express your concerns to the main office so we can reach out to those individuals.

I appreciate your cooperation and understanding.  If you have any concerns please feel free to contact my office so we can further discuss this issue.

Thank you,

Mike Darga, Principal

DIBELS ASSESSMENTS

Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) Next is a standardized set of general reading outcome measures. The measures assess for(depending on grade) phonological awareness, alphabetic principle, accuracy and fluency with connected text, vocabulary, and comprehension. The measures are designed to be short (1-3 minutes) and can be used as a universal screener, as well as a progress monitoring tool. The purpose is to identify students at-risk of not meeting grade level reading benchmarks and to provide such students targeted supports immediately.

This year, we will be administering the DIBELS in grades K-5. The number of tests per student will vary based on grade level.  A team of trained staff will be administering the DIBELS this fall.  On the days of assessment and the day and time (AM or PM) you can expect students to be pulled for assessment from their class. Once again, these are very brief assessments and will take less than 3-5 minutes per student. The 4th and 5th grade DAZE portion will be administered as a whole class. With instruction the exercise takes approximately 5 minutes.

As the building principal, I walked the halls with a big smile on my face.  I could not be any prouder of our school community.  The building looks fantastic and the halls were filled with energy.  Each classroom was moving and grooving orchestrated by our Rock Star Teachers!  The PTA table was filled and our membership numbers were climbing.  Thank you for participating and taking an active role in your child’s education!  This is going to an exciting and rewarding school year!

Autism Speaks: Team JustinCredible

wnfas-logoDear Lindemann Families,

On behalf of Justin Baksa (Lindemann Lion), I wanted you to be aware of a fundraising event taking place on September 18th. The Baksa family and Team JustinCredible will be walking as a family in honor of struggles that Justin has and the wonderful progress he has made.

More about Autism and Autism Speaks:
Justin is participating in Autism Speaks Walk to help change the future for everyone who struggles with autism. Autism affects one in every 68 American individuals including one in 42 boys, and is the fastest-growing serious developmental disorder in the U.S.

Research is crucial. High-quality programs and services are needed. And, this is why I am walking and fundraising for Autism Speaks Walk. Use the links at the bottom of this page to take action online. If you choose to mail in your donation, please remember to send in a donation form, available on my homepage, along with your check made payable to Autism Speaks to ensure that my fundraising account receives the credit.

635959258221800624-2001360189_autism-awareness-ribbon

We do this walk as a family because of the joy that Justin brings us. We do this walk because it is nice to have an event where Justin’s shrieks and jumping and flapping are not looked down upon, but rather understood and appreciated.

We do this walk for Justin…because he IS JustinCredible.

If Justin’s smile has made your heart melt… please make a small donation.
If Justin’s giggle has caused you to laugh along… please make a small donation.
If Justin’s sweet voice has brought tears to your eyes… please make a small donation.

Please find the link below if you wish to make a donation in Justin’s name. If he raises $150, he’ll receive a t-shirt at the event. Please consider joining our team and walking along on Sept. 18th.

Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, help, and prayers.

With love,

The Baksa Family
Justin, Kirsten, Norman, & Megan
