Lindemann Lion Logo

Dear Lindemann Families,

On behalf of the Lindemann Staff, we would like to personally express our thanks and appreciation for your ongoing support as we come to the close of a great school year.  We feel honored to have such supportive parents, involved community members and motivated students.

Special thanks to our outstanding PTA for their efforts in ensuring our students have the best education possible.  We could not do it without your continued support. We also sincerely appreciate the hard work the teachers, support staff, office staff, and custodial staff have put into this wonderful year.

And now, we get ready to say goodbye to our 5th grade students.  It is bitter-sweet, we are so proud of all our fifth grade students and what they have accomplished and we are confident that they are well prepared for middle school but how could they be leaving us already? Wasn’t it just yesterday that they were practicing their sight words and you were dropping them off at the Kindergarten door? Thank you for entrusting your child to us and for all that you have given to Lindemann Elementary.  We wish all of our 5th grade student’s great success at Allen Park Middle School!

I wish each of you a happy, safe, and fun-filled summer. We will see you back here at “home” in September.

Best regards,

Michael H. Darga

Principal

PRESS RELEASE:

Allen Park Public Schools is very pleased to announce a special project taking place at Lindemann Elementary, 9201 Carter, Allen Park, on THURSDAY JUNE 9th.  The project is called Art for the Sky, and the premise of the project is that all of the students create a living painting with the help of artist Daniel Dancer.

Dancer has been creating Sky Art for over 30 years, all over the United States, Canada and in countries like Holland, Australia, and India to name a few.  However, Lindemann Elementary will be the 1st MICHIGAN school to partake in this project  This opportunity is made available to us through a grant fund by the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and due to the extraordinary efforts of Rachel Trapani, APPS Art Teacher.  We have nearly 700 students at Lindemann Elementary so our sky art painting will be quite large!

Below is a news clip about the Art for the Sky project at a Florida Elementary School

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RB-mDNi-M18

We would love for you to attend the living painting project on June 9 from 1:40-2:30 p.m.  It’s always uplifting to see, read and hear about positive stories on the news, especially those that feature children!

Per the attached invitation/schedule, on June 8, students will attend an introductory assembly by grade level.  Daniel Dancer will explain the history and science behind this type of art from the earth.  Then they will will begin to grid out the design on the field in the afternoon. The design will be finalized during the morning of June 9, and weather permitting, children will begin assembling for the living painting at 1:40 p.m.  (Rain out date is June 10 at 8:40 a.m.)  Concluding assemblies are scheduled throughout the morning of June 10 and students will watch the Art for the Sky video and view the aerial photo of our image for the first time!

Below are a few pictures to give you an idea of what the aerial photo looks like.  Lindemann Elementary will be focusing on the Kirtland Warbler, a bird from Michigan’s endangered species list, that was near exhibition before our state created protected areas in the northern counties to ensure its survival.

Or visit http://www.artforthesky.com/htm/skygallery.htm

or Art for the Sky on facebook to see the most recent projects.

Each dot of color is a student of that school. The color of their shirts correspond with the colors of the image in order to create the living painting.

Court Yard Volunteers Needed

Help Us Outsmart the Weeds!

Here’s how you can help:

A very important Lindemann Courtyard work party is scheduled on Tuesday, June 7 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. (with a rain day of Wednesday, June 8).  The more volunteers we have, the more we can get done. Due to the nature of the work this is an adult only event.

  • With 5 volunteers we could get the beds weeded.
  • With 10 volunteers we could get the planting beds edged.
  • With 15 volunteers we could get the mulch spread.
  • With 20 or more volunteers we could weed, edge, mulch and clean up together in the company of other Lindemann adults.

If you are able to help us, please sign-up using the attached link.

We also need a rototiller if anyone has one (and is able to operate it).

Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a difference at our school!

Cereal Drive Picture

The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Annual Cereal Drive to Combat Child Hunger

Children’s Hospital of Michigan 2016 Cereal Drive Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan is delighted to partner and be the recipient for the seventh year of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Professional Nurse Council’s annual Cereal Drive ‘because hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation’ June 3 – June 10, 2016.

In 2010, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Cereal Drive raised over 160,500 servings of cereal (14,180 pounds), the largest cereal drive in Gleaners history! Every year the Cereal Drive continues to exceed the previous years’ serving totals. For the sixth year celebration in 2015, 895,382 cereal servings were collected. An amazing total of over 2 million cereal servings have been collected by the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in six years! The impact of this community project is invaluable in the fight against child hunger. In southeast Michigan, more than 300,000 children receive free and reduced-price school meals. For many of these children, breakfast and lunch at school are the only meals they can rely on. The Cereal Drive affords Gleaners large quantities and choices of cereal to distribute through our partners to our community’s children who are home from school for the summer. Thank you to our friends at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan for their continued commitment to the health and well being of the children in our community beyond the walls of their hospital.

We look forward to the seventh annual 2016 Cereal Drive and hope you can join us. Gleaners’ thanks you in advance for your support.

Gleaners Community Food Bank is a 501 [c] [3] organization. Founded in 1977, Gleaners is one of the oldest and largest food banks in the country. In 2015, Gleaners distributed over 34 million pounds of donated and purchased food to 510 soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, senior homes, schools and other partner agencies that feed hungry people. A copy of our non-profit tax exempt letter is available on request.
